women kept puting thier oppinions out in the paper.
The 1920's were full of surprising events for everyone as women kept on pushing for more rights. This time period for women was great but also terrible, there was a huge disapointment for women even though they had a few small successes. During this time period was the womens sufferage, it was a huge step for women but also a tragedy for several women as they payed the price for the rest of the women.
The women's suffrage parade was attacked by a mob who contained men that didnt want them to have more power then they had already gained. The mob left hundreds of women dead and several injured. There were never any arrests made. Womens sufferage didnt just deal with the women, all men; both white's and black's, had to have their say in it. An article stated "Those opposed to females gaining the vote feared that a combination of African American men, who gained the franchise through the Fifteenth Amendment, along with African American women voters would doom white supremacy"Woman's Suffrage Act. N.p., n.d. Web. 2 Jan.2013. <http://www.vahistorical.org/onthisday/21820.htm>.
There was a good side to this tragedy, the women had a small win.. in 1923 the equal rights amendment was passed and they now had the same rights as men. Although they now had equal rights not much has changed for them. Men still disaproved of them having rights and still tried to keep them from using thier new found rights, but the women didn't give up, they continued to fight until the men could no longer stop them from using thier rights. In 1925, Nellie Taylor Ross became the first women elected as a governor in the United States. Nellie was a very important person to the women. She inspired them because she proved that women could be or do anything they chose no matter how hard they may have to fight, they will someday get there.
