Birth Control Organizations
By 1900 many women were beginning to strive for a greater say in the society they were contributing to, but the struggle for more rights was a long one. As the article stated "Women were still expected to care for their families and keep the home, regardless of their work outside of it, and in most countries had no say in the running of their government"Position of Women in 1900. N.p., n.d. Web. 3 Jan. 2013. < http://www.ehow.com/ info_8255850_womens-rights-1900-1910.html>. The 1910's was a great leap forward for the women of this time period. Women were glad that they were able to have new jobs but the still weren't happy with the results and thought the could have been better.
The main reason this is a important time period is because the Congressional Union worked toward the passing of a federal amendment to give women the right to vote. This was appreciated by the women, but they soon began to expect more. The More rights that women began to expect the more problems that they had. Men and other members of society didn't want the women to continue gaining rights, they thought they had enough. The more men refused to give them more rights, the harder they faught for them.
A huge thing happened for the women society as Margaret Sanger opens the first U.S birth-control center clinic in Brooklyn. There were several mixed feelings about the abortion techniques. doctors disapproved and refused to give abortions. Therefore it was shut down 10 days after opening, Margaret was arrested. In an article it stated that "Margaret Sanger spent time in jail to fight for sex education, and for
distributing contraceptive information and contraceptives" Margaret Sanger Quotes. Jone Johnson Lewis, n.d. Web. 3 Jan. 2013. <http://womenshistory.about.com/od/quotes/a/margaret_sanger.htm>. This caused women to go have an abortion on thier own and that made it even more unsafe to not only the child but the mother as well.
